Gilles Brassard, pioneer of quantum cryptography, receives the A. M. Turing Award
University of Montreal computer science professor Gilles Brassard is co-recipient of the 2025 A. M. Turing Award, which comes with a one-million-dollar grant and is presented by the world's largest computing organization, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), based in New York. "The A. M. Turing Award is the most important of all international prizes in computer science and it is the most significant of my career to date," said the quantum cryptography pioneer following the ACM's announcement.

INTRIQ is a group of university researchers, divided between 5 universities in Quebec: Université de Sherbrooke, de Montréal, McGill, École de technolgie supérieure and Polytechnique Montréal. Among them are computer scientists, theoretical physicists, experimental physicists and engineers.
It is this plurality of approaches, visions and methods, all directed towards the same goal, that of mastering quantum mechanics with a view to '' use for the processing of information, which is the specificity of INTRIQ on the Quebec scene.
The members of INTRIQ manufacture unique samples in the world, measure them under extreme conditions with equipment and expertise at the cutting edge technology, inventing architectures and optimizing measurement or encoding protocols using particular properties of matter. Finally, they are developing algorithms that will make possible calculations inaccessible to conventional information processors.
